Danny Mountain and his stepdaughter Phoebe Kalib are in the kitchen when they hear a knock at the door. Danny opens the door to find Maria Kazi standing there. Maria is Danny’s daughter from a previous marriage. Maria and Danny have not seen each other in years. Danny invites Maria into the house and they head into the living room. Danny sits down on the couch and Maria sits down next to him. Maria tells Danny that she has been staying with her mother for the past couple of weeks. Maria asks Danny how long he has been married to his wife. Danny replies that they have been married for over twenty years. Maria then asks Danny what he does for a living. Danny responds that he runs a construction company. Maria inquires about Danny’s wife and asks if she is still alive. Danny explains that his wife died a few years ago. Maria informs Danny that her mother is also dead. Danny inquires as to why Maria is living with her grandmother. Maria replies that her grandmother is old and cannot take care of her.
